I don't come on ride outs as it is to far to go (from crewkerne to plymouth) just for a ride out

here my idea
I could speak to Glen and see if "SWB Members" could get a 5% or 10% discount on resprays and non SWB Members would have to pay the full wack

From the consensus of opinion everyone is willing to pay more than Dave is currently asking. Also I think that there should be a set annual membership with a renewal date in the year and if people join mid year then they pay pro rata, ie June renewals of £12 if people join half way through the year its £6 till next renewal then its all the same for all members. Makes it a damn site easier.

I've been running a gaming clan for donkeys years that used to have an annual turnover of £4200 so I know what a headache it is to collect the money but the above system worked well for me and is also a lot less work for Dave who, in the end, has to collect and administer all of the money and forums.

But what makes people want to join a forum and pay apart from those that want to support it and have the money. At present theres little / no gain from joining and parting with £5. The members forums are slow with little posts.

Why not make the rideout section visible to all members but only SWB members can post in it (easily done on the forum admin) then all non members can come along and know where to meet and it will be the responsibility of the ride organiser to get a £1 off each non member who attends the ride.

Again make more of the Banter and mechanical help forums read only to non members so that if they want to join in they have to join. That way there is more to entice people to part with their money.

Lets face it £12 a year is a tank of fuel for most bikes and not going to be missed yet would pay for the forums with 40 members for the year. Then the extra money can go towards promoting the site and also stickers and other SWB stuff. Maybe even for flyers at Paignton bike nights to encourage more members.

Also advertising on the top of the forums. I'm more than sure with the amount of visitors we get a banner from Protyre or the like would get them some traffic even if they just paid £100 for 12 months advertising. You'd be surprised how much companies will pay for advertising on such specialist local forums! Even if its 2 firms paying £50 for a year it all helps!

There are a multitude of ways to get money from the memebers and advertising but we need to also think of what people are getting in return!

We could also make some room for the 125 guys. We always post about rideouts going 100 miles half way across devon/cornwall but rarely see anything for the 50/125 guys. These guys will soon be on the bigger bikes so grab em while we can and get them to join!

Sorry to rant on but theres plenty we could do to get things paid for and I think with a little effort from everyone paying their subs we could make this forum really buzz!

I agree with almost everything Jase said above, apart from having having all membership end at one time in the year. That makes cash flow difficult.

and i still like the idea of beeing able to pay by standing order @ £1 a month.

Back to topic, I've met made some good friends on this site, and I'm happy to contribute a little more towards it. The good thing about it is that its for all bikers, no matter what they ride. 50's, 125's, Cruisers, Superbikes, whatever. :D

Well I'm up for paying £10.

Worth it just for the banter on here and the rideouts are a bonus (not that I see anyone  )

£10 is not a problem, but i do like the sound of standing order £1 month and this way dave gets £12 so even better but however i think personally if it goes too high you wont get many new users and also if this is enforced you must cramp dont down on unpaid members and limit post or i aint paying

It's an online banking account that you pay via credit/debit card to an e-mail address and then Dave will receiver the money into his account ;)
