WHAT WOULD YOU DO ???

Post by speedy(delboy) »

Was working last night, went into work around 10 pm ready for the night shift in the cab, and come around about 1130pm I got bored and decided to go for a ride as I was way to much awake to go home to bed.

I got home, put on my leather and got the bike out. I went into town 1st of all to see if it had got any busy-er, but it hadn't.

Now I got down to the Square (although its a roundabout  ) and was waiting behind a taxi who was just pulling out and out of the blue this fuel tanker came flying over the bridge and had to slam his breaks on with smoke pouring off of his wheels. The taxi driver was in the right and when he started pulling out the Fuel tanker was not in sight.

Anyway, I pull out behind it and it happens to be going in the same direction as me. As you go through Barnstaple there is a short duel lane road and I though I would rather be in front of this loony rather than behind, so I over take him.

I head out towards the Link Road heading toward South Molton and I noticed him doing the same. I get onto the link road and he was getting closer and closer to me as the fog was coming down and I was on the speed limit.

Next thing I know he is about 10 foot of the back end of my bike and still trying to get closer, then in his stupid wisdom he starts over taking, now remember I am already doing 60mph.

He gets about 3/4 of the truck passed me and then starts pulling back in making me have to hit the breaks hard or face going underneath the truck.

The Company (AND DONT ANYONE DELETE THIS NAME) is P M Clarks of Barnstaple.

Now this guy is a right Pratt driving a Fuel Tanker - WHAT WOULD YOU DO NOW ?? - Remeber, he has nearly cause 2 major accidents in a matter of 2 miles.

Report it to the police mate, if a person has three independent complaints against them they get points i have heard and I'd also inform the company, they should know the truck by the route and the time. It may not help, but i think worth a try, especially if you can get the other taxi driver to say how much of a fecking eedgit he was..

I have the other cabbies details and he said he is willing to make a complaint as well, I also took the VRN of the Fuel Tanker

You could report it to the Police, but I doubt they'd be interested unless it's a quiet night

You could definitely report it to the company .... I've done something similar myself when I saw an elderly lady being verbally abused by a dipsh*t from a tarmac firm

One other route you could take, to a body (as you probably know) far less tolerant .... report the incident to VOSA .. the firm will almost certainly find themselves the subject of a "random" visit by a member of the inspectorate .....

You could try reporting it to the police - but like Moose says, doubt they'll do anything. Once reported a car for literally pushing a mate and his bike off the road, police weren't interested

Write a letter to the MD of the company concerned. Send a copy of it to the local paper.

Moose's suggestion about VOSA is spot on - I'm sure a little visit from them wouldn't hurt

Yes Speedy do something, being a truck driver myself i support you in this we do not need looneys like this, unfortunately this seems to be too common among the tanker drivers, hopefully one day britain will catch up with europe and screw all hazardous truck speed limiters back too 50 mph. We drivers have to try and keep standards up, pratts like that do not help, As another driver said to me one i do not profess to be the best driver in the world, but i am sure i am not the worst. Oh and you most likely already know but he should only have ben doing 40 mph on the link road

I have just got back from speaking to John Incledon of P.M Clarke Ltd (Cheers Andy) and he is not impressed with the actions of his driver, He will be calling the driver concerned in for an interview.

HOWEVER, he was still trying to defend the guy probably without himself even knowingly doing it.

He has asked that I go back tomorrow for another chat with him, once he has interviewed the driver concerned, to see what if neccessary other actions to take.

I said if nothing is done then I will be informing VOSA.

NOTES for Merv and toby, don't take this the wrong way guys but I thought I would mentioned the details you provided, and he said whoever said this was talking out of the back of their arsses (his words not mine).

Will let you know more tomorrow.

bit strange really. i am a dgsa (dangerous goods safety advisor) amongst other things, for the company i work for. i also hold full adr in core and packages 1-9 (excluding class 7 - radioactive).
we work very closely with vosa, and YES YOU DO GET CAUTIONS!!!! for example, under ADR if you get caught for speeding you get prosecuted for dangerous driving NOT speeding. 6 points and you lose your licence.
the guy you have been speaking to sounds like a cowboy. ask for a copy of the driver's adr licence (A5 size) and make sure it covers tankers class 3 (flammable liquids) and their waste carriers licence. he is obliged to show you a copy of the latter as it is issued by the environment agency.

does NOT sound good
